  1. Education is great. Can the instructors be sure to cover etiquette? I constantly find that snowshoers walk in and destroy ski skin tracks in the backcountry. I have to hope that it is just ignorance but the behavior is very wide spread.
The problem is simple. Skinning requires friction for the skier to ascend. When snowshoers punch holes out of the skin track there is less contact between the skins and the track and skis slip on the steeps. This makes the skin track that skiers put in, at significant effort, no longer useful. Then we put in a second skin track to find on the 3rd pass that more snowshoers have ruined it again. Its just silly bad form.
